As early as now, I’d like to put a disclaimer here that this list is definitely, as expected, subjective. Also, most of the vloggers listed in this article are probably not dermatologists but ordinary people who have educated themselves of skin health.
Thus, if you have a serious skin disease or condition, please consult a dermatologist/expert to resolve this.
Now, where are we?
Yes, skin care vloggers. While I established that most of them are enthusiasts and not experts, watching their vlogs and fact-checking the information they tell their subscribers made me really impressed and hooked for the next video.
These skin care vloggers have introduced me to the concept of ‘dehydrated skin’ after all this time that I thought my skin was just stubborn and dry. Watching their videos somehow helped me, as a mom to never forget to take care of myself and my skin even if sometimes and honestly, it’s a lot of work.
I am really keen about these vloggers because they never let you fall into the trap of advertised and commonly full of BS beauty and skin care products. They test it and they give an honest review. The best part is, they dissect every ingredient in the bottle or tub, which I learned is very important because every chemical counts.
Without further fan-girling, here are 3 Skin Care Vloggers that you should follow to help you understand your skin and its health more:
1. Gothamista
Gothamista or also known as Renee according to her Youtube bio, is a city girl and skin-thusiast, who treasure hunts for beauty products as a profession. Her entire career has been of finding & curating fabulous things, beauty and lifestyle related from the small necessities to indulgent luxuries! She has been in the beauty industry for over 10 years in both the buying and development side of products. She tries a LOT of stuff so you don’t have to!
She currently sits at 485K subscribers as of this writing and true to her word, if you happen to come across a beauty product everyone is so crazy about- check Gothamista’s channel and chances are, she has it. I loooooove the fact that she highlights budget too when creating a skin care routine. I mean, being beautiful should not get us broke right?
2. Liah Yoo
Liah Yoo or as introduced by her bio, a decoder of skincare & makeup. She worked at the biggest Korean cosmetics company HQ and now pursuing her dream as a content creator. She’s also often found jet setting to spot palm trees around the globe.
That introduction has a hint of quirkiness and that’s probably to prepare you. Liah Yoo brings the best of Korean and American beauty products while injecting a bit of humor for her 703K sunscribers. I always get a relaxed vibe when listening to Liah even if she’s talking about Niacinamide, Lactic Acid and chemical sunscreen. If you are feeling nauseous hearing those terms, give Liah Yoo’s video a try and I guarantee it will be worth your time.
Caroline Hirons has a lot of expertise to bring in the table for her 197K subscribers. I think she is what will happen if everyone becomes a skin care vlogger and find out how messy the industry is. Good thing there’s only one Caroline, who is also an internationally qualified facialist trained in over 100+ brands. She spends her days working with brands, blogging and matching up faces to those 100+ brands.
Caroline does not shy from swearing most especially if the BS is right up her face staring at her. This might not be everyone’s cup of tea but I surely enjoy and silently cheer whenever she drags an expensive product that is really just over-hyped.
Believe it or not, there are beauty and skin care vlogs in YouTube that deserves more recognition than it’s actually getting. While some of us might think that taking care of your skin is very luxurious, try it and you’ll see how it affects your overall confidence and peace of mind.
